Friends of Trees and Community (and basketball) Involvement!

Get involved with your community to help increase green spaces in your area! Friends of Trees is an organization that protects and nurtures green spaces, while educating the importance and benefits of planting trees. Friends of Trees states that “tree shade can help cut your energy costs by 30% during the summer” which is amazing for energy conservation! Friends of Trees also had the intention of creating a stronger community through tree planting, as neighbors get to know each other and create lasting relationships. This organization also reiterates the health importance of green spaces, as they clean our water, soil, and air. Trees can also increase property values in an urban space. Planting trees with your community can create lasting relationships, and increase environmental and physical health!

This year, the Portland Trail Blazers committed to keep their community green by participating in the 3’s For Trees, partnering with Daimler Trucks North America and Friends of Trees. For every three-point shot made in the 2014-15 season, three trees were planted in the Sandy River Delta (it was increased from three to thirty in the playoff season!) By the end of the season, over 2,000 trees were planted! This is a fantastic example of how the multiple organizations and members of multiple communities banded together and made a difference.
